We currently are in range to pick up San Diego on our radars, Land Ho! It has been a long journey, one where people you normally wouldn't associate yourself with becomes family. Sadly, the cost of war has taken its price on this command, but we all have come willingly into this. With that said it is sad when selflessness consumes someone.
Earlier today a civilian died of a heart attack in our hanger bay. It is a tradition to allow family [AKA Tigers] come onboard naval vessels for the final transit from Hawaii to Homeport and experience our daily life. A marine lost his father today and later he threw himself from our rails.
9 months... nine months where spent fighting for something and then it was all thrown away. In my opinion, his father's final moments where spent with his son and they were not in vain. Who is to say that the occurrence wasn't inevitable and the passing would have been without his son at his side. So many people have missed crucial events while tending to our duties. I would prefer to have my father hold my hand as he passed versus receiving an AMCROM, a letter, from the American Red Cross.
