WoW Remote AH Service

Curious what everyone thinks about this because it really rubs me the wrong way.

Back in the day I played the AH a little but ultimately that gold making strategy bored me as I would rather gather and happen upon the occasional 1v1 PVP scenario to break the monotony. If you make your gold playing the AH be aware of this upcoming change.

My gripe is the precedent this sets. F2P with a cash shop, vanity pets and mounts or item malls are one thing but a subscription based game that then offers an in-game advantage for an additional sub fee just doesn't sit well with this gamer.

I'm not saying it is unethical, but it is very borderline for me. I'm typically a Blizzard defender for the same reasons I have always defended Microsoft (fanboy of neither). I don't like where this takes the gaming industry and that has me disgruntled!

What does Tribe think? Other then Alan needs to have a martini and settle down :)

Tribe thinks you said you were going to stop going by Dino to avoid confusion! ;)

I tend to agree... not that I think microtransactions are inherently bad, but I think you need to decide if your game has them, or doesn't. Vanity pets are an obvious example, Celestial Steed is slightly more grey. To me, this is on the other side of the line. However, I tend not to get too upset about these sorts of things...

It is a little shady, and a cash grab. It does give a small advantage for those with the 2nd sub. This application doesn't make massive imbalance. But any further subscription "premiums" could.

I agree with both of your comments. What annoys me about it is the fact Blizzard, love or hate, has so much influence on the gaming industry that a move from them like this adds validity to these seemingly small cash grabs.

I read those the day they came out and have since stopped investing in Activision.

I completely agree with you dino. When blizzard first started the pet shop with the panda and mini kel, i was slightly annoyed. Then i saw the mount and the mini kt, got a little more annoyed.

Then hearing about the mobile AH and that was just it. From a business standpoint, i can see how its a good thing for them. But seriously... I see items coming up next. I know that blizzard has said that they wouldn't do, but ever since the merge with activision... they have done a lot of stuff they said they would never do just to gather more money from customers.

PvE to PvP character xfers
character sex changes/custom (Trust me, i sent in many tickets on this in bc because of my fat ass male tauren made it impossible for me to see sometimes in kara)
Faction Changes
Name Changes
Race Changes

All of these things were stated by blizz on multiple occasions that they were not interested in implementing these things.

I dont trust the security of it. I know people that have authenticators that wont prompt them when they use the remote AH. I know other people that it does. In my opinion i dont trust the security at all I see this being exploited some way to gain account access. Just my 2 pennies

Being that I can program for the Android phones, I'm waiting to see if they release a version for the Droid phones. Currently it's iPhone exclusive.

Beyond that, it's a fun concept. I'll have to wait and see if my authenticator will be prompted on the phone or not... would not make sense to have to pay for a service that just makes my account vulnerable to attack.

Plus, I don't know if I really would need to have it on a phone TBH, I mean, just farm like crazy for a few days and then at a time your not busy just flood the market! :-)

I tried it a bunch during the beta period. I never really was a big AH player myself, but I could see it being its own little mini-game if you like that kind of thing.

If you could craft from the Remote AH then I'd probably pay the extra fee to play with it. But I prefer to do things like JC to make money than to just relist things.
